Hiroshima
Hiroshima Prefecture is located in the center of the Chugoku region, bordered by the Seto Inland Sea to the south and the Chugoku Mountains to the north. With deep ties to wartime history, Kure City was home to Japan’s largest naval shipyard, where the battleship Yamato was built. The Yamato Museum showcases models and real wartime artifacts. In Hiroshima City, the Atomic Bomb Dome, which survived the 1945 bombing, stands as a symbol of peace and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another UNESCO site is Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, known for its beautiful shrine built over the sea. The scenic Shimanami Kaido route also offers stunning island views.
