You will create your piece using a traditional loom (takabata) actually used for Shiozawa weaving.
Each loom has a different color for the warp threads. Please choose your favorite loom!
You can choose two colors for the weft threads from a wide selection.
Sakiori (rag weaving) is not done with thread, but by weaving in thin strips of torn cloth. In the past, this weaving method was used to reuse old, worn-out kimonos and other garments. Compared to thread weaving, the resulting piece is thicker and more substantial.
It's a comfortable and immersive experience that will make you forget the passage of time, and you'll create a one-of-a-kind original piece!
Small children (under 110cm tall) can participate with adult supervision.
*All weaving experiences include a demonstration and explanation (approximately 15 minutes) about the history of Shiozawa weaving. In addition to the experience fee, there is a 2nd-floor admission fee per person (500 yen for adults, 250 yen for elementary school students). Thank you for your understanding.
